Scott D. Whitefield – String Teacher and Director of Peebles String Orchestra CIC

Scott D. Whitefield is a highly experienced string teacher based in the Scottish Borders, offering one-to-one and group lessons in schools and private settings. As Director of Peebles String Orchestra CIC, he is passionate about nurturing musical talent and creating opportunities for the community to engage with music.

Scott’s musical journey began with free violin tuition in school, an experience that shaped his belief in accessible music education. His dedication saw him progress rapidly, laying the foundation for a career focused on both performance and teaching.

After formal studies in music, Scott gained extensive experience in arts administration, learning and development, eLearning, event organisation, fundraising, and marketing. These skills, combined with his deep knowledge of instrumental teaching, allow him to take a holistic approach to education.

With a wealth of experience working with youth orchestras at both local and national levels, Scott is a member of the European String Teachers Association (ESTA) and trained in the String Babies approach. His commitment to inclusive, high-quality music education has earned him multiple award nominations, including recognition at the Music and Drama Education Awards and the Proud Scotland Awards.

Scott’s teaching style is relaxed, engaging, and tailored to help each student build confidence and reach their personal goals. Whether learning the violin, viola, cello, or double bass, students at Peebles String Orchestra CIC receive expert guidance in a supportive environment.
